Young adults often get a lot of bad press – but not here. We have an outstanding group of kids and teenagers from all over Kelowna training with us. This age specific martial arts class for students aged between 7 – 13 who have achieved the rank of Orange belt or above. Classes are designed to be fun, lively, friendly and innovative, offering many opportunities to try new things from grappling to flying kicks.
As an Intermediate student, your classes are designed to teach you all you need to know about Martial Arts and set you on the road to becoming a Black Belt. In your classes we help to develop a broad base of skills in karate, close range sparring, throwing, groundwork including developing speed, relation and power before then moving onto the benefits of other martial arts like Judo, Aikido, and Ju Jitsu.
Because you are more mature both physically and mentally than the Little Ninja’s and Junior Beginners, we also teach more demanding aspects including pressure points, locks and pragmatic self defence. We also help you to learn about the principles and theory behind what we practice, especially as you rise in ability.
At this stage student’s physical skills are advanced and we will continue to develop these, enabling students to reach the peak of their abilities. In addition the youth and teenagers will, through their practise with us, develop their abilities in these areas:-
- Goal Setting
- Positive Attitude
- Self Confidence
- Smart decision making
Being an Junior Intermediate student is about far more than just turning up at your classes each week. It’s about learning to have a ‘black belt attitude’, even from your very first lesson. That doesn’t mean that you get to wear a black belt straight away (although if you work hard you will earn one in the future), it’s all about trying as hard as you can to be the best you can be, not just at your martial arts moves but also in your behaviour and attitude at the dojo, at home and at school.
Remember, learning Martial Arts with us can save your life. It’s really important to be able to defend yourself, and it’s at this age that you are more likely to need those skills than at any other time in your life. We will teach you how to protect yourself in a fight, but more importantly we will teach you how to safely avoid fighting.
Within this group we also run a successful Junior Leadership program where the participants act as a special team of role models to show to the younger and less experienced students the benefits of hard work and effort and the skills that this can develop. Entry to this program is by invitation only and includes additional in depth technical instruction plus regular development in personal and leadership skills such as public speaking, effective communication, leading by example and team-working.
